Kellen Breen
2 Op Collective has their eyes on KELLEN BREEN! Here are some examples of his work:
Q. Tell us about your work?
A. These paintings are about you. You’re actions towards each other and the environment are under my empathic scrutiny. They start of as one idea and through the course of months of work veer wildly through the Id and come out the other end an entirely different image. First glances are engaging due to the scale, wide value range, and energetic composition. The distortion of space gives the paintings a first-person perspective and allows the audience to become self-aware of their own role in the narrative. The imagery is bizarre and humorous which encourages viewers to move past the initial interest in the work and start to form their own interpretations. As mentioned in the SF Weekly blog, the Exhibitionist, by Stephanie Echeveste, “Look closer at any of Breen’s paintings and they start messing with your mind.” (Full article link: http://blogs.sfweekly.com/exhibitionist/2012/04/kellen_breen_scott_inguitos_exhibit.php)
Q. What advice do you have for your peers?
A. One day you’ll be a little monkey fossil in the ground (a little wisdom from my grandmother, Rudi).
Q. Where can we learn more about you and your work?
A. Come have a beer and check out my show hanging at Place Pigalle (520 Hayes St / San Francisco) until May 20th, 2012.
